What is a Life Coach?

Coaching focuses on an individual’s life as it relates to goal setting, outcome, and personal change. A life coach does not focus on reviewing past events or analyzing previous failures. That is what a therapist does. Coaching is not therapy. Life Coaching is a non-judgmental and confidential atmosphere. Coaching looks at where you are right now and where you want to be down the road. Through a series of attainable steps, a life coach helps clients overcome fears and achieve balance in both their personal and professional life. I like to think of it this way, you as the client have a destination in mind that you want to achieve. I as the coach have the map and together we will map out the best route to see that you arrive at your destination.
Life coaching is a good option for individuals who wish to overcome a challenge or achieve more success in their life. Is a Life Coach right for you? Read on to find out.

Do I need a Life Coach?

That’s a very good question. Because the coaching process is based on trust, it’s important to choose a coach you feel comfortable with. Sometimes it’s necessary to try a few professionals before you find the perfect match that fits you and your lifestyle. A life coach cannot do anything for a client unless the client is ready to step into action. A life coach is a sounding board for ideas, but the final work is up to the client. As a client you need to feel like you are ready for change. Only you can know if you need a Life Coach or not.

Here are some questions to ask yourself to see if you need to hire a Life Coach:

  • Do you often feel overwhelmed with daily tasks?
  • You know you need to change, but seem to have a resistance to change.
  • Do you have goals you just can’t seem to reach?
  • Do you feel like daily life is just going through the motions?
  • Do you need better balance between work and life?
  • Do you have a hard time making decisions?
  • Could you use help in simplifying life?
  • Need some help in setting priorities?
  • Do you need to improve  upon relationships?
  • Are there deadlines that cause stress and make you feel like you can’t cope?
  • Would you like to identify core strengths and maximizing their potential?
  • Need some support
  • Do you have low self-esteem?
  • Do you often feel like nothing works out for you?

Answering yes to any of the above questions doesn’t necessarily mean you need therapy, but might suggest that you could benefit from a Life Coach.  Once you establish just what you’d like to accomplish with Life Coaching then you‘re ready to find the right coach to help reach your goals.

Life coaching may not be the best option for you if you have a hard time accepting constructive criticism or you just don’t think you can devote the time and energy to make a change for the better. Due to the partnership approach of coaching, it is vital that the client be open and willing to the experience.
Life Coaching requires the coach and the client to be honest and to be open to change. This goes along with my Be & Share program. Click on the Be & Share tab to learn more.
